JAZZ WORKSHOP #85 - CONNECTING YOUR EAR WITH YOUR INSTRUMENT
In-demand trombonist and vocalist Malcolm Earle Smith has been at the heart of the thriving London jazz scene for over 20 years. His deep and versatile engagement with the jazz tradition has been sought out by major jazz and pop artists, including collaborations with Bryan Ferry, Tony Kofi, Liam Noble, Martha Reeves, Enrico Tomasso, Josephine Davis, among many others.
Alongside his trombone playing, Malcolm is well known for his distinctive approach to scat singing, the Guardian newspaper crowning him "the new King of Scat" (April 2022). As professor of jazz at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire since 2007, Malcolm has played an important role in shaping what has been called the new 'UK jazz explosion', mentoring the next generation of young British jazz artists.
