Steve Waterman is professor of Jazz Trumpet at Trinity College of Music in London and visiting Jazz Trumpet specialist at The Royal Northern College of Music and The Welsh College of Music & Drama. Much in demand as a trumpet player and composer, Steve has also recorded many critically acclaimed albums under his own name.
Steve has toured internationally and recorded on the ECM label with John Surman’s Brass Project and the Carla Bley Big Band. He has also regularly worked with many top jazz artists, including Andy Sheppard, Tony Coe, Victor Mendoza, Mal Waldron, Graham Collier, Mike Garrick, Don Weller, John Warren, Colin Towns, Robin Jones, Jeff Hooper, Alan Barnes and Lee Gibson.
As a composer, Steve has had a number of commissions ranging from small groups to big bands. Steve was invited to perform at the Havana Jazz Festival as a guest of Chucho Valdes with his big band featuring some of the greatest Cuban jazz musicians. They played concerts in Havana and Santa Clara, and the program included Steve directing his own suite ‘Concerto for Congas’.
