Scale Tone Passing Notes

Let's dive into scale tone passing notes. These passing notes connect chord tones within a scale. We use passing notes from the scale of the key signature, which is why there is no chromaticism involved. I'm discussing an example from my book called "Rhythm Changes Soloing," where I refer to it as "joining the dots" - connecting core tones with passing notes to embellish arpeggios. The exercise we'll start with consists of playing arpeggios and then connecting them with scale tone passing notes. Later, we'll remove some notes to create a more rhythmic and bebop-like jazz line. These exercises are great for mastering one aspect at a time. I'll use my iReal Pro backing tracks for this demonstration, which you can get for free from my website.
